First intercontinental massive vaccination campaign

Updated: Jun 26, 2023

On the 25/03/2022, the OWG participated in a massive canine vaccination campaign event for the conservation of small wild cats and for reducing the risk of disease transmission from dogs to wildlife.

Teams in more than 5 countries, leaded by the TCCI and working groups from the Small Wild Cat Conservation Foundation (SWCCF) took action to vaccinate target populations of dogs that had the potential to invade the habitat of different species of wild cats present in the areas.

Diseases like canine distemper or rabies can negatively affect wildlife populations and a way to prevent this is by vaccinating and spaying/neutering the stray cats and dogs that roam freely within and around natural reserves.

In 2022, Animal Karma worked in Morelos for the vaccination of 200 dogs. This year, the group is summing forces to make a massive vaccination campaign together with many other conservation groups.

Thanks to all of these conservation efforts and actions, we are working towards a better future for wild cats! Thank you so much to all the collaborators that made this event possible.
